Rebuilding a Meyer E-47 Pump - Step by Step
Page - 2
If the nuts do come off, cut the nylite washers off. Use a hammer and flat screwdriver to gently tap the cover in 3 places to remove it. Sometimes they come off easy, sometimes not.
Here the top cap is slid up. You can see the O Ring that makes the seal between the cap and the fluid tank. You can also see the rust ring. The cap is aluminum and the tank is steel. You can see the rust ring stops where the O Ring ends, showing that it was not leaking.
This is the reason not to try and remove the studs if they unscrew. Two of them have tooth washers on them at the bottom to hold in the plastic baffle. Now that the cap is removed, you can use vise grips or a pipe wrench to hold the stud and unscrew the nylock nut.
Bottom side of top cap. You can see the O Ring seal, and Guide Bushing. Often when removing the cap, the O Ring stays on the lift ram, and is in pieces. This O Ring is the actual "seal". What you see on the outside of the top cap is just a "wiper".
There is a washer that sits on top of the Lift Cylinder, on the Lift Ram. It has grooves on the bottom side of it that allow fluid in the cylinder out, as the Lift Ram rises when lifting the plow.
After removing the washer. you can grab the Lift Ram, and lift it out of the Tank. Hold it upright, as there may be fluid in it. Drain any out in a pan, and set the Lift Ram aside. Grab the Fluid Tank, and rock it side to side while lifting and it should pop off. You might need to pry on the base a little with a flat head screwdriver. On the next page we see just what is in the base of the pump.
